Meet the Artist
Heath’s appreciation for animals began during his youth in Maryland, where he and his family raised sheep. During his undergraduate years studying Animal Science, he discovered his talent and passion for recognizing and communicating the subtle physical differences between individual animals. You might say he was classically trained in the discipline of evaluating animal anatomy and body composition. It was also during this time that Heath was first exposed to the visual arts. At this intersection of real world animal experience and artistic curiosity, Heath would later find a passion – rendering the spirit of animals with oil and canvas.
Heath studies and draws inspiration from the Impressionists of the late 19th century, most notably Sorolla, Sargent, Degas, Morisot and Cassatt. His artistic approach is simplification, or substance without the unnecessary. He begins each work with sketches and studies before completing the final painting in one sitting.
The proud father of three grown daughters resides in North Liberty, Iowa with his loving and supportive wife, Heidi, and their two pups, Buffy and Billie.
